The local youth groups from Bochum and Nordhausen actually work closely with their project partners from Italy and Portugal, respectively Spain and Poland. However, Generation Europe – The Academy also enables additional alliances. Bochum in the Ruhr region and Nordhausen in Thuringia have been official twin towns since 1990. What could be more obvious than to fill this connection with life also at the level of youth work?
The Centro di Creazione e Cultura (CCC), our project partner in Florence, has published an impressive video about the commitment of the local group of Generation Europe – The Academy in Tuscany. The video summarises the three most important local activities of the past year and shows how closely the young people work together with other civil society organisations.

Youth work in Ukraine during the war – is that even possible? Among the more than 40 organisations of Generation Europe – The Academy, there is the “German-Ukrainian Community of Youth Work”, DUGA for short. This is a story about practical networks of solidarity, and local activities that do make a difference.
Helping to shape how and what is learned in schools is one of the goals of the local group in Ploiești, Romania. With this aim in mind, the group organised by the association “Un Strop de Fericire” has developed an extensive workshop programme.
The local group in Örebro, Sweden came together for a whole weekend. While working on their local action plan, they came up with a great idea: They want to create a website to help other young folks to find after school activities and hobby clubs.
“Do you know how many girls and young women are excluded from social life because of their menstruation?” asks the local group in Mrągowo, Poland. To initiate a discussion about this and to make a difference, the group built a dispenser for pads and tampons, installed it in the women’s restroom in their school, and published a video about it.
With a creative performance, the local group of Generation Europe – The Academy in Munich drew attention to an important issue: the Willow Project. This is a controversial project planned by the US oil company ConocoPhillips, which wants to drill for oil in northern Alaska. They plan to extract about 600 million barrels of oil, emitting enormous amounts of climate-damaging CO2 and endangering the nature and wildlife of Alaska.
On May 9th, SMouTh, the local project partner of Generation Europe – The Academy in Larissa, Greece, will host an event at the Diachronic Museum of Larissa. For the local group, the event is a valuable part of the concept development for their Generation Europe youth encounter.
