Munich: Active at the bicycle rally

It was a remarkable demonstration of civil society commitment: 17,000 people, far more than expected, took part in the bicycle rally of the Bavarian Radentscheid Initiative in Munich, Germany. The Munich local group of Generation Europe – The Academy was also there.

The Bavarian Radentscheid is a petition for a referendum on better and safer cycling infrastructure. A hot topic also for the young people from our Munich local group, who attended the event to network and continue their commitment to a liveable, sustainable and just city for all. They used the gathered crowd to promote more sustainability in everyday life with flyers for their Seven Days Challenge. Many interesting conversations took place and there was a lot of talk about Generation Europe – The Academy. A great initiative on a beautiful day!

The cycling demo not only went along Munich’s Mittlerer Ring. Also the motorway was temporarily closed to car traffic so that the cyclists could ride freely and safely. At the event, the activists of the local group made it clear: On the way to a sustainable future, it is important to continue to take the voices of youth seriously and to empower them to participate. Their perspectives and ideas are invaluable in shaping a better future.
