Verse & Vision: Building Resilience With Art

Verse & Vision is a youth exchange project that brought together three organisations from the network of Generation Europe – The Academy: Kids in Action (Greece), DUGA (Ukraine) and Witer e.V. (Germany). Contacts and friendships that were formed during Generation Europe Youth Leader Tranings lied the foundation for this remarkeble cooperation. The three organisations have jointly developed a set of tools and methods using art to remain resilient in difficult times – and produced really impressive artworks!

During the project, young people from Ukraine, Germany and Greece came together in Weimar to explore the city’s cultural heritage. The idea of the encounter: Engaging with culture and history can open up new ways of approaching the here and now, helping us to navigate the world more effectively. The international group has demonstrated this by exploring the texts of Goethe and Schiller, Bauhaus art and the ideas of the Romantic era.

Meaningful Video Art

It’s easy to romanticise life when everything is sorted. But what if the world you are living in is chaotic and turbulent? How to enjoy the everyday life, how to find moments of joy and happinnes in this case? The participants shaped their reflections into different artistic formats from video to installations. You can watch some of the impressive videos here:

I don’t know how to talk about the war in less than a minute. Writing & Directing: Раян Капоцці, Acting & Voiceover: Рімма Голоколосова.
Dancing Through Emotions: Memories are a tricky thing. You think that time can extinguish them, but what if a melody can awaken them? Music becomes a bridge between absence and presence, between what is lost and what still lingers within us. Maybe memories are rooted in us, and one song can change it all. Crew members: Martha Emmanouilidou, Rafaela Nikolaidou, Alexis Ntentes, Anatoli Sarrigiannidou, Sofia Kustitska, Masha Ivaniushchenko
Fitter Happier. Be careful when trying to programme your life, because one day your first page may get crumbled. (Song by Radiohead)
The sun is in the sky – I’m in the fields. The train is speeding full of human noise. The city stretches its iron hand into the fields after me. I am irritated by the uncertainty that trembles in me: would the hand release its iron fingers? Will the fingers clench behind me and lose? Will there be silence? Will there be peace? Self-role, choreography: Sonya Kucher | Camerawoman, video editor: Mariia Vlasenko | Graphic designer: Melissa Luhova | Text editor: Lada Kunich
Becoming. “Oh the creation of the beauty of the world, what differs living fibre from the dampish mould? We leave our prints behind, we are the same inside”. By Anastasiia Brovko, Chrysa Myrsioti, Despoina Touliatou, Georgia Pappa, Katerina Veldemiri, Olha Semydivka.

The project partners also presented some of the project outcomes during the Generation Europe Project Planning Conference in Hattingen, Germnay, to showcase the results and open the discussion on the importance of art as a tool for resilience for young people with fewer opportunities.
