Let’s Europe: Festival of Exchange

What does your own city have to do with Europe? In the run-up to the EU elections, the “Let’s Europe” weekend festival took place in Bochum on June 1st and 2nd, where the city council and civil society initiatives joined forces to highlight the many connections from Bochum to Europe and the world. And of course, the local group of Generation Europe – The Academy could not miss the event.

As part of the festival featuring European culture, international music and intercultural exchange formats, the local group presented their work in the Generation Europe network and the large-scale programme of European youth cooperation as a whole.

In addition to looking at pictures, videos and information material, visitors were able to work with the activists using a screen printing machine to create T-shirts and carrier bags to draw attention to the EU elections on 9 May. It was a great opportunity for a variety of discussions and plenty of personal interaction.

While there, the young people also got to talk to Axel Schäfer, Bochum Member of Parliament and Deputy Chairman of the SPD parliamentary group, whom the group immediately invited to the closing event of their international youth encounter this year. From 9 to 20 August, their partner groups from Rome (Italy) and Évora (Portugal) will be visiting the Ruhr region. The Bochum-based group is working closely with them within the framework of Generation Europe – The Academy.
