From 7 to 18 August 2023, active young people from Thuringia, Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain) and Krzyżowa (Poland) are meeting in Nordhausen (Germany). Together they are working to bring international youth cooperation to life. Helmut Holter, Thuringia’s Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, visited them and welcomed the young international guests.
What does a minister actually do all day, what is he responsible for? What is his vision for Europe, and what goals does he have in youth policy? The young people, who are themselves active in their communities with their local projects, asked Helmut Holter questions like these.
The international group is staying at the Education Campus Rothleimmühle in Nordhausen. For twelve days, it is now all about international experiences, engagement and social participation for all, regardless of origin, parents’ income and previous success in the formal education system.
The programme that the young people have put together together with the Education Campus team centres around social networking and communication on many different levels: It includes, for example, a visit to the state capital, a day trip to the Harz mountains with the narrow-gauge railway and experiments on environmental protection, a visit to the Dora-Mittelbau memorial, a creative workshop with the youth art school, workshops designed by the participants themselves and free-time activities. The young people also want to report regularly on their experiences in short broadcasts on Radio ENNO.
In order to participate in this unique programme of European youth cooperation, Jugendsozialwerk Nordhausen has entered into a three-year project partnership with the Asociación para la Participación, Oportunidad y Desarrollo (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) and the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe (Krzyżowa, Poland).
