Barcelona: Visiting the Parliament of Catalonia

The local youth group of our Spanish partner organisation Irenia, Jocs de Pau from La Nou de Berguedà, has reached an important milestone in its work: in September, it presented its activities to the Parliament of Catalonia in Barcelona. There, the young activists met with three members of the PSC (Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya) to present their work to date and discuss the next steps.

Education as the Answer to Discrimination

Under the motto “Discrimination as a problem, education as the answer!”, the group has been working intensively on the topic of discrimination for the last three years. After receiving comprehensive training on the issue, the young people dedicated their efforts to raising awareness among the general public and key stakeholders.

Through interviews, articles, and videos, they reached out to important actors such as the Department of Education of the Government of Catalonia and teachers’ trade unions. Their material was widely disseminated across major networks, including NGOs and teachers’ associations.

In Dialogue with Policymakers

The visit to the parliament was the highlight of their advocacy work so far. In an intensive exchange with the politicians, the young people presented the goals of Generation Europe – The Academy and their local group. It was an important dialogue full of questions, ideas, and new perspectives for the future, aimed at planning further concrete actions in the fight against discrimination together.
